Recognition of Prior Learning

Lateral or vertical transfer student admission is carried out basing on the "The Transfer Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees, Double Majors, Sub-specialties and Credit Transfer Regulations among Institutions". The prior learning of transfer students is recognized as per the relevant regulations of Council of Higher Education and under the coordination of the Adaptation Committee.

Kocaeli University guarantees in advance that all credits gained and courses received by an Erasmus student after the mobility abroad will be fully recognized and transferred into Kocaeli University system and upon arrival with the approval of the authorities and the student. While preparing the" Erasmus Credit Transfer and Grade Equivalency Table" the ECTS grades are transmitted to Kocaeli University grading system.

Turkish higher education institutions are in the start-up phase about the recognition of non-formal and informal education. However; computer and foreign language skills that students improve on their own, are evaluated through exemption examinations by the university. Students who prove to be proficient in such exams are exempted from related course(s).

Program Competencies

  • To be able to use theoretical and applied knowledge in the field of mathematics, science and aerospace engineering to be used in solving complex aerospace engineering problems.
  • Identifies complex engineering problems in the field of aerospace engineering, analyzes them numerically and/or experimentally using scientific methods, develops solutions and interprets the results.
  • Plans aircraft and spacecraft structures and systems to meet certain requirements, and designs and manufactures them using modern design methods.
  • Makes conceptual and preliminary designs of manned and unmanned air and space vehicles that can meet certain requirements, carries out their computer-aided designs using modern design methods, and produces solutions for detailed design and production methods.
  • Have a command of international standards and experimental methods used in aerospace engineering applications. Has the ability to read and create technical drawings in the field of aerospace. Effectively uses design, analysis and experimental programs related to the field.
  • Has knowledge about aircraft and spacecraft maintenance process, methods and management.
  • Aware of the necessity of lifelong learning, follows the developments in science and technology and continually renews himself. Can use the knowledge accumulated over time on a global scale to solve problems and eliminate deficiencies in the field of aerospace engineering.
  • She/he can think with a focus on scientific research, identify original topics that are open to research, conduct detailed research in the literature and produce output on the relevant subject.
  • Gains awareness of individual responsibility. Can take part in multi-disciplinary large-scale teamwork, lead the work and fulfill him duties with dedication. Have the infrastructure to independently plan and carry out multi-disciplinary, small-scale studies.
  • Has knowledge about entrepreneurship, innovation, awareness and sustainable development. Gains project development and management skills. With him entrepreneurial perspective and the research and development discipline has gained, can undertake applications in business life such as project and risk management.
  • Has effective verbal and written communication skills and can share him suggestions for solutions to the problems encounters in him field and opinions on any subject through various communication channels.
  • Has the ability to write effective reports with knowledge of Turkish and at least one foreign language, understand written reports in Turkish and at least one foreign language, prepare design and production reports, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear and understandable instructions.
  • Have professional ethics awareness. Has knowledge about the effects of aerospace engineering applications on health, environment and security at universal and social dimensions, as well as the problems of the age reflected in the field of engineering, and has awareness of the legal consequences of engineering solutions.
  • Has knowledge about occupational health and safety and examines work environments in this regard and offers suggestions to create a safe environment.
  • Sensitive about observing economic, social and cultural rights and protecting cultural values. At the same time, attaches importance to social, cultural and scientific activities, participates in them and can organize such activities.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Examination, assessment and grading procedure is mainly based on Kocaeli University Education and Training Regulations for Associate and Undergraduate Degrees Depending on the nature of the course various instruments such as midterms, final exams, short exams, presentations, assignments, projects, portfolios and applications may be involved in the assessment process of a semester on condition that students are informed about their weights upon registry. Contribution of these activities to final grading range between 30% -70% and So as to be eligible to take the final exam, a student has to fulfill the attendance requirement of 70% for theoretical and 80 % for practical courses. Once this requirement is fulfilled, attendance is not required again in case of a failure and retaking that course. Final grading of a course is determined on the basis of semester studies and final exam. Those with certified and officially approved excuses are also given a makeup exam.
