Course Contents

Studying literary genres and their characteristics, examples from Turkish and world poetry along with commentary exercises, work related to intellectual and fictional texts, and text reading and analysis.

1) Introduction, entering the class and presentation of the syllabus
2) Literary genres and their characteristics
3) Literary genres and their characteristics, analysis of a sample story
4) Analysis of a story
5) Genre and characteristics of the novel, examples from Turkish and world literature
6) Examples of novels, evaluation based on selected excerpts from novels
7) Examples from Turkish and world poetry and interpretation
8) Midterm exam
9) Examples from Turkish and world poetry and interpretation
10) Reading and interpreting intellectual texts
11) Reading and interpreting intellectual texts
12) Travel essays, memoirs, and the aesthetic dimension of these genres, reading and evaluation studies
13) Characteristics of characters and dialogue in short stories and novels
14) Discussion of characters in short stories and novels and comparison between dialogues
15) Relationship of literature with other arts and disciplines such as sociology, philosophy, and history
16) End of term exam
