Ders psikoloji tarihinde öne çıkan temel kuramların gelişimini ve bu kuramları geliştiren psikologların görüşlerini katılımcılara sunmayı hedeflemektedir. Ders psikoloji tarihi çalışmalarını ele alarak başlamakta, psikolojinin deneysel bir bilim olarak gelişiminde rol oynayan felsefi ve bilimsel (özellikle fizyoloji alanındaki) etkileri ele almakta, ve daha sonra Wundt ve psikolojinin kuruluşu, yapısalcılık, işlevselcilik, davranışçılık, Gestalt psikolojisi, psikanaliz ve insancıl psikoloji konularıyla sürmektedir.
