Course Contents

Sources of the Cllasical mythology, approaches and methodologies applied is explored. Historical geography and economic politics of new settlers of Agean World is introduced together with their beliefs in gods, goddesses and heros.

Weekly Schedule

1) Sources of the Cllasical mythology and approaches and methodology applied.
2) Agean World and Greek Culture after migration of the Sea People; Homeros as the first epic writer and Hesiodos as a deductive writer
3) Chaos and creation of universe in Classical mythology
4) The first hierosgamos: Uranus and Ge and the Titans
5) The second hierosgamos: Cronos and Rhea; the Titans and the machia (titanomachia, gigantomachia, and centauromachia)
6) Establlishment of Cosmos, Harmony and the Kingdom of Zeus
7) The third hierosgamos: Zeus and Hera; Zeus's relation with mortals and immortals; his offsprings
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Role and function of the Greek Pantheon at the Trojan War; Epic of ılliad and its heroes
10) 12 Labors of Heracles, Student Presentations I.
