Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

2) Recognize orders of architecture developed at this time period, the first millenium B.C. and onwards, such as Aeolic, Doric, Ionic and Corinth styles.
3) Grasp plan types of temples and significance of temple for its citizens.
4) Explore development of the city- polis and their layouts belonging to the Kingdoms and city-states of Anatolia, as well as Athens.
5) Grasp impact of democracy on architecture in Classical periof of the First Millenium B.C.
6) Examine armatures and major structures of ancient cities of Anatolia on basis of plan and function such as, thatre, stoa, stadium, agora, bouleterion, and prytaneion.
7) Examine development of arch and vault system in architecture. .
8) Recognize construction techniques of Roman architecture.

Course Contents

Architecture of cultures flourished in Anatolia after swept of the Sea Tribes is examined, such as the Phrygians, Lidians, Aeolian and Ionian; Development of architecture during Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods, as well as Roman Republican and Principat period architecture are introduced.
