1) Learning about the Renaissance period, the conditions that prepared this period, and the social, political and scientific innovations that emerged during the Renaissance period.
2) Learning the process of Age of Exploration and its effects on European culture.
3) Learning about the Peace of Westphalia and its effects on international diplomacy.
4) Learning about the important thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment and their impact on the political and economic transformation of Europe.
5) Learning about the political climate in Europe after the French Revolution.
6) Learning the effects of the Industrial Revolution on the European social, cultural, political and economic structure.
7) Learning the development and effects of social movements in Europe from the end of the 18th century to the end of the 20th century.
8) Learning the development of the concepts of modern state, constitution and democracy in 19th century Europe.
9) Learning the effects of international conflicts in the 20th century on European politics, culture and economy.
10) To gain the competence to evaluate European history from intellectual, political, cultural and economic perspectives.

Course Contents

From the 16th century to the end of the 20th century, it evaluates the important transformation processes of European history in social, economic and political terms.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction, explaining the course syllabus, giving the main sources of the course.
2) The Renaissance period, the conditions that prepared this period, and the effects of the social, political and scientific innovations that emerged during the Renaissance period on the following periods.
3) Age of Exploration, colonialism and their consequences.
4) Reformation movements and their effects on the socio-political structure of Europe.
5) Important thinkers of the Age of Enlightenment and their impact on the political and economic transformation of Europe.
6) The Revolution of 1648, the Peace of Westphalia and its effects on international diplomacy.
7) The effects of the Industrial Revolution on the European social, cultural, political and economic structure.
8) Midterm.
9) The French Revolution and its political and intellectual repercussions in Europe.
10) Political and intellectual consequences of the Napoleonic Wars and the Treaty of Vienna.
11) Revolutions of 1848 and their effects.
12) "Deutsche Einigung" and Risorgimento" and aftermath; the rise of nationalism; The effects of the 19th century financial crises on European social and political life.
13) The independence movements in the Balkans, the Balkan Wars and the effects of these developments on the formation of Balkan political geography.
14) The political, cultural and economic transformation of Europe during the World Wars (1914-1945).
15) The political and cultural structure of Europe during the Cold War.
16) Final exam.
