Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Recognize the working fields of geology
2) Distinguish the formation of the Universe and the place of Earth in this system
3) Recognize the inner and outer dynamics of the Earth
4) Recognize the types and origin of earth materials (minerals and rocks)
5) Recognize the formation reasons of basic geologic structures, including folds, faults and foliations
6) Define the theory of plate tectonics and the reasons of orogenesis and earthquakes related to it
7) Recognize how to integrate atmospheric, oceanographic, geological and biological concepts with an historical perspective to introduce the major processes that have shaped Earth's environment
8) Recognize climatic processes on geological time scales; the evolution of organisms; the cycling of elements; the feedbacks between these processes
