Course Contents

This course covers the introduction to environmental geology in terms of basic concepts and principles; natural disasters in terms of an overview, river flooding, coastal processes; soil and environment in terms of soil classification, physical and chemical properties of soil, soil pollution, soil surveys and land use planning; water pollution in terms of contaminant types and sources, environmental problems related to quantity (drought, heavy pumping, subsidence, urbanization, geothermal), surface and groundwater pollution and remediation; mining and environmental impacts; air pollution in terms of acid rains, global warming; waste disposal in terms of landfills, radioactive waste disposal, the role of geology for selection of landfill location; geology and health; environmental impact assessment
