Course Contents

Determination of hydraulic parameters: porosity, specific yield, water content, bulk density, grain size distribution, intrinsic permeability, hydraulic conductivity; tracer tests: determination of pore water velocity; water sampling and preservation techniques; measurement of hydrochemical parameters: pH, EC, TDS, Eh, DO, alkalinity; spectrophotometric measurement technique; presentation of major ion chemistry of groundwater; preparation of hydrogeochemical maps, hydrogeological report preparation.

Weekly Schedule

1) Determination of hydraulic properties: porosity, specific yield, bulk density etc.
2) Sieve analysis: determination of grain size distribution, effective grain size diameter and uniformity coefficient
3) Determination of intrinsic permeability and hydraulic conductivity: constant and falling head permeameter
4) Measurement of pore water velocity: tracer test
5) Water sampling and preservation techniques, devices
6) Measurement of pH
7) Measurement of electrical conductivity and total dissolved solids
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Measurement of Alkalinity
10) Measurement of dissolved oxygen and Eh
11) Spectrophotometric measurement technique
12) Presentation and interpretation of major ion chemistry of groundwater
13) Preparation of hydrogeochemical maps
