This course covers the definition, application areas and working principles, classification of tunnels and underground structures, classification of geological materials for tunneling, engineering geological investigations of a tunnel route, evaluation of engineering geologic data, problems related to groundwater, temperatures and gases in tunnel, overbreak and arching in tunnels, rock mass classifications in tunneling and the methods of determining the parameters of engineering geology in rock mass classifications, support systems in tunneling, excavation methods in tunneling, tunnel boring machines and their properties, engineering geological investigations during a tunnel driving, engineering geologic problems encountered during tunneling and adopted solution methods.
