Course Contents

This course covers the meaning of vocabulary, examination of words in several angles, various dimensions of words, phrasal words, concepts and phrases, fault usages in Turkish language, written expressions methods such as novels, articles, essays and poems, examples of presentations, reports and records, business letters and CV writing, discussions and debates.

Weekly Schedule

1) Types of composition writing: Article. General information about article. Explaining the ways of writing an article. Reading severeal article samples. Preparing an article about "The development of language awareness, language pollution and Atatürk's conception of language".
2) Types of composition writing: Essays, criticism, jokes and interviews. Characteristics of types of composition writing and analyses of sample texts.
3) Writings based on facts: Story. Story examples from Turkish literature.
4) Writings based on facts: Novel. Definition and theme in a novel with its components and types. Novel examples from Turkish and world literature.
5) Writings based on feelingd: Poetry. Reading sample poems from some famous Turkish poets. Earning pleasure of listening and reading poem.
6) Types of composition writing about daily life: Travel, memoirs and diary. Reading and analyzing sample texts about types of composition writing about daily life.
7) Types of composition writing: letter. Letter and its relation with daily life. Ways of letter composition in electronic post correspondences. Reading sample letters from Turkish literature.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Types of verbal expression: Conferences, symposium, congress and interviews. Preparing a conference sample about youthfulness problems, the importance of love and tolerance and etc
10) Expression types based on discussion: Panel, forum, open session. Holding an open session about modernization and secularism, democracy and the republic and etc.
11) Scientific research methods. Selecting and limiting a topic. Source scanning activity in accordance with a sample plan formerly prepared.
12) Recording the results of a research on paper. Indication of reference and footnote.
13) Introducing periodicals, books and encyclopediasc about language and culture.
14) Benefiting from the libraries. The functions and importances of libraries in social life. Accessing to information in electronic form.
