Course Contents

Introduction to chip-type machining processes, cutting tools for machining, cutting tool materials, geometry of cutting tools, tool failure and tool life, fundamental structure of chip formation, mechanics of machining, economics of machining, machinability, cutting fluids, basic calculations for machining times at material removal processes.

1) Historical background and introduction of materials removel processes
2) Introduction to materials cutting tools
3) Description of carbon and low alloyed steel tools
4) Description of alloyed tool steels, knowlodge of high speed tool steels
5) Stellite type cutting tools, description of sintered metal carbide tools and their production methods
6) Properties of sintered metal carbide cutting tools, types of carbide tools, surface coating methods (such as PVD and CVD processes) of tools and their application areas
7) EVALUATIN OF COURSE AND TERM EXAM
8) Grinding tools, manufacturing, properties, selection criters, precautions during to using with machines tools
9) Cutting tools geometry, types of cutting tools according to cutting edges
10) Effects of cutting forces on tool geometry, wear phonema of cutting tools, tool life
