Course Contents

Introduction; general state of energy; energy reserves, production and consumption of the world and Turkey. Sectorial distribution of energy usage in Turkey and the structure of Turkish industry. Fundamentals of energy management, energy manager and his/her duties. Proper economical assessment methods for energy management. Mass and energy equilibriums in energy systems. Fuels, burning, and burning systems, efficiency calculations in boilers and steam systems. Isolation; isolation in buildings, isolation in pipes and isolation materials, determination of economical isolation thickness. Examples of possible energy savings in heating, cooling, air conditioning plants and pressurized air installations. Recycling of waste heat, heat pumps.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction; general state of energy; energy reserves, production and consumption of the world and Turkey. Energy usage in Turkey and the structure of Turkish industry
2) Fundamentals of energy management, energy manager and his/her duties
3) Studies of energy saving
4) Proper economical assessment methods for energy management
5) Insulation; insulation on flat surfaces, insulation in pipes and insulation materials
6) Determination of optimum insulation thickness
7) Visa exam.
8) Energy efficiency for energy production, energy distribution network and energy using systems
9) Energy efficiency in power and refrigeration cycles
10) Cogeneration (combined heat and power production –CHP-) and different cogeneration cycles
11) Recovering of waste energy and equipments
12) Heat pumps and using in heat recovery
13) Energy savings in heating, cooling and air conditioning systems
14) Energy saving in pressurized air distribution systems
15) Energy saving in electrical energy consuming equipments such as compressors, pumps and fans including equipment selection
16) Final exam.
