Course Contents

Introduction of district heating and applications, advantages and disadvantages of district heating. Calculation of total energy load for district heating systems. Creation of thermal energy for distribution and cogeneration (CHP) systems and their equipments. Types of fluid for heat distribution network and their temperature and pressure level. Pressurisation of sealed systems, thermal energy storage. Network for distribution of heat; pipes, ducts, supports and thermal expansion units for piping, insulation for heat and water. Substations and their equipments. Fundamentals of preparing district heating projects and their economical evaluation.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction of district heating and applications, History of district heating systems and nowadays applications on world and Turkey
2) Advantages and disadvantages of district heating systems, Types of fluid for heat distribution network and their temperature and pressure level
3) Sections of district heating systems and their duties
4) Network components for distribution of heat; pipes, ducts, supports and thermal expansion units for piping, insulation for heat and water
5) Substations and their equipments
6) Production of thermal energy and cogeneration (CHP) and their equipments
7) Visa exam
8) Calculation of energy load for district heating systems
9) Network design for district heating systems, selecting pipe diameter and pressure loss calculation
10) Heat loss calculation of district heating networks
11) Pressurisation of sealed systems, thermal energy storage
12) Fundamentals of preparing district heating projects and their economical evaluation
13) Geothermal energy for district heating
14) Sample project for small scale district heating
15) Sample project for large scale district heating by using cogeneration (CHP)
16) Final exam
