Gender and Women's Rights

Course Contents

History of women's rights movement in the 19th and 20th centuries; theoretical perspectives about gender inequality, state and law relations; discussion on traditional human rights framework from the point of gender based inequality; feminization process of human rights; women's civil and political rights; women's socio-economic rights; women's rights in international law documents (UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, UN Convention on the Political Rights of Women, UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violance against Women, etc.); recent changes in Turkish law and the case-law of Turkish courts about women's rights; presentations of major problems concerning women's human rights (discrimination and violance against women, exploitation of women's labour etc.); examination of typical violations of women's rights in the world and in our country.
