Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) To be able to distinguish the legal rules among the rules of social order and to explain the concepts of “right”, “human rights”, “fundamental rights and freedoms” and “obligation” in English.
2) To be able to explain the source and the characteristics of human rights and to follow the historical development of human rights before and after the 20th century.
3) To learn the basic human rights instruments at the United Nations and the Council of Europe levels.
4) To be able to explain the evolution of human rights and to classify human rights.
5) To gain information about the protection of specific groups’ human rights.
6) To be able to explain the sanctions and mechanisms for the protection of human rights.

Course Contents

Learning the concepts of fundamental rights and freedoms within the development process of human rights law and human rights protection mechanisms, introducing texts on basic international human rights instruments and human rights protection mechanisms in English.
