Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Requests the necessary tests at the first stage by questioning the symptoms of Internal Medicine, by medical history and physical examination, recognizes these symptoms by examination, treats certain problems by interpreting these and decides which patients should be evaluated by a specialist.
2) Analyses and synthesizes the signs and symptoms of gastrointestinal system diseases for differential diagnosis and diagnosis.
3) Diagnoses with differential diagnosis by analysing and synthesizing the signs and symptoms of endocrinology diseases, and decides on the necessary treatment.
4) Diagnoses with differential diagnosis by analysing and synthesizing the signs and symptoms of nephrology diseases, and applies the first treatment before sending them to the specialist.
5) Diagnoses the emergency diseases of Internal Medicine (such as diabetic ketoacidosis, non-ketotic hyperosmolar coma, adrenal insufficiency, hypercalcemia, hypocalcemia, oncological emergencies, hyperkalemia, poisonings, renal failure, shock, GIS bleeding) and applies the first treatment before sending them to advanced centers under appropriate conditions.
6) Applies necessary preliminary interventions by having knowledge about the general characteristics of hematological diseases before referring the patient to the specialist.
7) Recognizes clinical findings and high risk groups in common cancers in order to send patients to specialists in oncological diseases.
8) Recognizes the general characteristics of rheumatological diseases to refer the patient to a specialist when necessary.
9) Applies the necessary emergency interventions for treatment by recognizing acid-base and fluid-electrolyte disorders.

Course Contents

At the end of the Internal Diseases internship, semester IV students; Considering the learning objectives specified in the Core Education Program, they will be able to pre-diagnose or diagnose major internal diseases that are common and may require urgent intervention, treat these patients at the primary care level and perform emergency interventions, and refer the patient to a specialist when necessary.
