1) Make associations between ceramic and chemistry and express measurements with comprehensive numbers
2) Distinguish materials, explain and use basic rules of chemistry
3) Expound structure of atoms and use periodical table properly
4) Distiguish ceramic materials according to their bonding structure
5) Make mole calculations, derive formulas,recognize and distinguish asid and bases
6) Explain physical and chemical properties of clays and determine sintering temperature based on the knowledge of thermal behaviour of ceramic raw materials
7) Calculate mineralogical composition
8) Prepare slurry recipes

Course Contents

Description of chemistry and its importance, relationship between ceramic and chemistry, measurement systems and units, significant numbers, matter and its properties, basic rules of chemistry, structure of atom, table of elements and properties of it, ionic and covalent bonded ceramic materials and their properties, mole concept, to derive formulas, chemical equations, enthalpi concept, asids and basis, physical methods of ceramics, differantial thermic analysis of clays, clay-water system, clay slurries and their properties, thermal behaviour of ceramic raw materials, minerological composition calculations and slurry recipe calculations.
