Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) They learn generally 18th theatrical idea and theatre history.
2) They learn the important plays and writers in 18th age.
3) They learn "enlightenment thought" with examples of artists and writers of the age of enlightenment.
4) They learn the development of theater idea in various social, intellectual, cultural and artistic environments.
5) They learn classical and romantic theatre movement and its writers.

Course Contents

End f classical tragedy in 18th age. Bourgeois comedy; Gozzi, Goldoni and Holberg and their plays. Romantism and its writers; Lessing, Goethe, Schiller. Melodram; Kotzebue and Pixerecourt. First theatre movement in North America. Development of Asian theatre. Theatre in Russia, Japan and China. Beijing Opera and Kabuki.
