Course Contents

In this course will be examined the philosophical ideas of Ancient Greek Civilization, the idea trends in the Middle Ages, New Ages, Modern Ages in Europe and European culture and civilization in 21. century.

Weekly Schedule

1) Information about the content of the course will be given and the concept of culture will be explained.
2) Culture, world cultures and civilizations will be explained in the focus of sciences.
3) Intersocietal encounters and Eurocentrism will be examined.
4) Information will be given about the prehistoric period, the first writing and the first city states.
5) It will be discussed how the history of civilization should be read. Mediterranean and Mesopotamian civilizations adjacent to the European geography will be examined.
6) Anatolian cultures and the sources of Western culture will be examined.
7) An introduction will be made to the subjects of science and philosophy in ancient times. Ancient Greece and Rome will be examined.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Medieval culture in Europe will be examined.
10) The formation of Europe, social life, art and architecture in feudal Europe will be examined.
11) Medieval European cities, science, philosophy, and the process leading.
12) Renaissance in Europe, changing Europe and the factors that prepared the New Age, discoveries, colonies, etc. will be examined.
13) The new economic order, the situation of the church and the reform movement in Europe, which changed with the Renaissance, will be examined.
14) The Enlightenment in Europe, the French Revolution and the emergence of the United States will be examined.
15) Modernization in Europe and the innovations brought by modernization will be discussed.
16) Final examination
