Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explain what international relations and international relations theory are.
2) Examine the general condition of pre-World War II and applications of propaganda in the World War II.
3) Evaluate the Turkey-US and the EU relations in the historical process.
4) Evaluate the Greek-Turkish relations, the emergence of the Cyprus issue, the crisis of 1964, and Cyprus Peace Operation of 1974, and the next process.
5) Examine the other Turkish-Greek problems besides the Cyprus problem in the historical process.

Course Contents

Development of International Relations; Basic Concepts in International Relations, Fundamental Actors in International Relations; International Institutions; Aim and Tools of Foreign Policy, Diplomacy; Propaganda; National Power; Analysis Problem in International Relations; Theoretical Approaches in International Relations in International Relations(Idealism, Utopism, Realism), System Approach to International Relations and Modern International System Structure; International Conflicts and War; Democracy After Cold War and Human Rights.

Weekly Schedule

1) Course objectives and content can be shared with students, students' expectations of what the course will be discussed.
2) The general condition of pre-World War II and the Propaganda in the World War II and Joseph Goebbels will be explained.
3) II. World War and its developments outside of Turkey and the efforts of the Allieds to let Turkey in the II. World War will be analyzed.
4) The tension in Turkish-Allied Relations and the "Security Crisis" end of the war, and Turkey will be discussed.
5) Actors of International Relations / The International organization "UN" and Turkey's UN Membership will be discussed.
6) "NATO" and Turkey's NATO Entry / "EU" (EC-EEC) and the Turkey-EU Relations explained.
7) Turkish-American Relations in Historical Period will be examined.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Turkish-American Relations in Historical Period will be examined.
10) The Press in Emergence of the Cyprus Problem and after Developments will be examined.
11) Crisis of 1964 and events of 1967 and Turkish-Greek relations will be examined.
12) Cyprus Peace Operation of 1974 will be examined.
13) 1983 and the after period in Cyprus will be examined.
14) The Aegean Sea Issue and the Turkish-Greek Relations will be explained.
15) Evaluation and discussion about course.
