1) Define the concept of consumption.
2) Examine the transition process to the consumption society.
3) Examine the emergence of the concept of consumption culture with the formation of consumption society.
4) Compare the consumption patterns and cultural habits of the pre-industrial Europe and the Ottoman Empire.
5) Examine the reflections of the beginning of the era of industrialization in Europe and the capitalist developments that practised in the aftermath of it on the forms of production and consumption in the Western society.
6) Explain the effects of globalization on the consumer culture and the forms of consumption in Turkey.
7) Examine the effect of consumption culture of Turkey on education, art and social life.
8) Explain the impact of consumption culture in Turkey on the media content.

Course Contents

The transition to consumption of the concept of consumer society; Industry in Europe and the Ottoman Empire prior to consumption patterns and cultural habits will be discussed. development of capitalist production and consumption patterns in Western societies, the reflections will be reviewed. Taking the concept of globalization, globalization of consumer culture and consumption patterns in Turkey, the effects will be studied.

Weekly Schedule

1) The objective and content of the course will be shared with students, what kind of expectation students have about the course will be discussed.
2) The concept of consumption will be discussed.
3) The transition from the concept of consumption to the consumption society will be examined.
4) The emergence formation of consumer society with the emergence of the concept of consumer culture will be explored.
5) In pre-industrial Europe and the Ottoman Empire and the cultural habits of consumption patterns will be discussed.

7) Beginning of the era of industrialization in Europe and the aftermath of the capitalist development of production and consumption patterns in Western societies, the reflections will be reviewed.
