Course Contents

Begining from the Antiquity untill nowadays the correllation of the icons with the cultures are tougth in this class.

Weekly Schedule

1) Mythology and Iconography The purpose of the course presentation will be given general information about the scope.
2) Mythology of the concept will be informed about what is and how he was born.
3) In general, providing information about the concept of creation, creation myths explained.
4) Information will be given about Zeus, Hera, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hermes, Hephaestus, Hestia, Aphrodite and their cults.
5) Information will be given about Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, and Dionysos and their cults.
6) Heroes, battles, regional myths, and local legends are told.
7) The questions "What is an icon? How do icons emerge? What is the period of Iconoclasm?" will be discussed.
8) The stories of creation in Holy books will be told and their visual depictions will be discussed.
9) The stories of the pictures on the church walls from the holy book will be told.
10) The concepts of mythology and iconography of Western painting will be told.
11) Iconography, iconology, and iconoclasm will be told.
12) Sample analyzes will be made by giving information about the iconographic analysis method.
13) An exemplary iconographic analysis will be made.
14) General assessment will be made on mythology and iconography.
