Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) The students can solve equilibrium of particles in 2 and 3 dimensional problems.
2) They can apply the moment concept and solve the equilibrium problems of rigid bodies in two dimensions.
3) They can analyze all the internal forces at any point of a rod.
4) They will learn concepts of normal stres, shearing stress and deformations then they can make the design of a simple beam.

Principles of Statics, Equilibrium of particles in plane and space, Concept of couple and moment, Equilibrium of a rigid body in plane, Center of gravity, Internal forces, Shear and Moment Diagrams of beams, Concept of stres and deformation, Axial Loading, Rods subjected to bending, Eccentric loading.
