The history of midwifery’ educational an professional process in Turkey and the world Midwife’ role and responsibilities in health care system Basic concepts in medical ethics Medical ethics theories and principles Virtues and values in medical ethics The concept of rights, patient rights, rights of the embryo and fetus, children’s rights Ethical dilemmas, ethical decision-making Ethical issues concerning the beginning of life: the termination of pregnancy, the use of assisted reproductive techniques

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction of the course, basic concepts in ethics (deontology, morals, law, ethics, Ethical dilemmas, ethical decision)
2) The history of midwifery’ educational and professional process in Turkey and the World, Definition, duties and responsibilities of midwives, Ethical Codes in Midwifery Why is ethics necessary in midwifery?
3) phenomenon, rules, rights (ethical code, normative ethics, meta ethics).
4) Medical ethics theories and principles: autonomy, justice
5) Medical ethics principles: usefulness, not behaving badly
6) Medical ethics principles: telling the truth, respect for privacy, confidentiality

9) Informed consent in incompetent patients (In consciousness disorders, emergency, children
