Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explains the factors that put the mother, fetus and newborn at risk during birth and the early postnatal period,
2) Knows the criteria for referring the mother and newborn in risky situations during birth and the 6-8 weeks after birth,
3) Applies midwifery care in situations that deviate from normal during the birth and postpartum period,
4) Relates it to other courses taken during education,
5) Collaborates with other members of the healthcare team,
6) Uses the necessary information to protect and improve the health of the mother and the baby,
7) Plans practices to improve the health of the mother at home during birth and the 6-8 weeks after birth,
8) Organizes health training for mother and baby during birth and 6-8 weeks after birth.

Birth Preparation

Course Contents

In this lesson; approach to risky birth, analgesia and anaesthesia at birth, episiotomy, lacerations, operative interventions related to risky birth, risky situations related to uterine contractions, risky situations related to amniotic fluid, risky situations related to bone pelvis and soft tissues, risky situations related to the birth objects topics such as presentational anomalies, interventions related to labour, risky situations in the postpartum period, postpartum bleeding, postpartum infections, urinary system infections, risky situations related to breast and breastfeeding will be included.

Weekly Schedule

1) Course presentation Risky Delivery and Postpartum Period Course
2) Application of the Abnormal Labor and Birth and types
3) Risk situations with uterine contractions (hypertonic, hypotonic uterus dysfunction).
4) Rapid action, physiological and pathological uterine ring (bandl).
5) Dystocias, presentation disorders related to the birth object (forehead, face, shoulder, mixed, breech).
6) Position disorders and fetus-pelvis incompatibilities
7) Dystocias related to the birth canal, risky conditions related to the bone pelvis and soft tissues.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Dystocias, other problems related to the mother's psychology (fetal distress, hypertension, heart disease, multiple pregnancy).
10) Umbilical cord anomalies, amniotic fluid anomalies, placenta anomalies.
11) Analgesia and anesthesia during birth, episiotomy and laceration, operative interventions related to risky birth.
12) Postpartum hemorrhage (uterine atonisi, plecenta retention, birt canal lacerations, hematomas, uterine subinvolution, inversion)
13) Postpartum infections (perineal and vulva infections, endometritis, pelvic cellulitis, peritonitis, salphingitis and sepsis)
14) Breast problems in the postpartum period and breastfeeding
15) Urinary Tract Infections (Sistitis and Pyelonefritis) Thromboembolic Conditions
16) Final examination
