Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explain the basic pathogenetic principles and etiologic factors of diseases.
2) Discuss the basic physiopathology of inflammmation, tissue repair and immunological and hemodynamic disorders.
3) Explain the terminology of neoplasia and basic concepts of the tumors.
4) Explain the carcinogenesis, carcinogens, tumor biology and diagnostic tests and screening methods particularly for gynecological cancers.
5) Recognize the risks encountered in pathology laboratories.
6) Discuss the risks precautions.

Course Contents

This course covers; Introduction to pathology, cell injury and the mechanisms, degeneration and necrosis, alienation of body fluids, pathogenesis of edema, clinical presentation of edema, dehydration, hyperemia, congestion, hemorrhage, embolism, ischemia and infarct, shock, the concept of inflammation, inflammatory cells and elements general principles of infectious disease, viral and bacterial infections fungal and opportunistic infections., types of inflammation, chronic inflammation, tissue repair, introduction to neoplasia, classification, general principles of benign and malignant tumours, various etiologic factors of the disease, components of immune sysytem, basic principles of immune response
