1) Evaluate the problems of newborn according to the terms of our country.
2) Discuss the changes with the transition to extrauterine life of newborn.
3) Explain physiology and the needs of the newborn.
4) Comment of something nterprets the specific differences in drug applications for the newborn.
5) Practice the role of midwife care for common health problems in the neonatal period.
6) Evaluate the resulting pathological conditions of the newborn by physical examination.
7) Make emergency response to high-risk infants.
8) Make consultation and training to parents.

Course Contents

Introduction of Operating Plan, state of child health in Turkey, physiology of the newborn, first care and evaluation of newborn in delivery room, care and evaluation of newborn out of delivery room, nutrition during neonatal period , parents' educational needs, conditions requiring emergency treatment and care.

1) Introduction- The health status of children in Türkiye and the World and the roles of midwifes in newborn health
2) The description and physiology of the newborn
3) The first care and evaluation of the newborn in delivery room
4) The care and evaluation of the newborn out the delivery room
5) Fluid- electrolyte balance and medicine practices
6) Cases needs emergency treatment and care
7) Contagious diseases and immunization
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Nutrition of the newborn
10) Growth and development- description and characteristics, 0-1 years development
11) 1-3 and 3-6 years development
12) The high risk newborn
13) Newborn’s hemolytic diseases
14) Central nervous system and gastrointestinal system anomalies
15) Genitourinary, Skeletal system and cardiovascular system anomalies
16) Final examination
