4) Express the growth sites and their activities which function in jaw development.
5) Explain the embryological development of head-face-jaw skeleton.
6) Express the prenatal formation and postnatal growth and development processes of the head and face.
7) Comprehends the importance of normal growth and development processes of head-face-jaw skeleton for the other systems of the body from the view of orthodontics.
8) Explain the effects of craniofacial development on dentitions and occlusion.
9) Explain the prenatal and postnatal growth and development processes of the maxilla.

Course Contents

The contents of the course are the growth and developmental processes of face, head and jaws including the characteristics of normal growth, the growth potential and rate and the relationship between orthodontics, beginning from the prenatal period until adulthood

Weekly Schedule

1) The history, definition and the objectives of orthodontics
2) Explanation of growth and development and the relationship between orthodontics, the factors affecting growth and development, the principles human organism obeys
3) Basic principles of prenatal development of hard tissues (head face jaw skeleton)
4) Growth and development of bone, endochondral ossification, intramembranous ossification
5) The growth centers and growth sites and their functions, epiphyseal plate and epiphyseal cartilage, sutures, synchondrosis'
6) Growth activity on bone surface, periosteum and the role of periosteal areas in growth, endosteum and the role of endosteal areas in growth
7) The activity of special growth sites functioning in jaw development, condyle cartilage, periodontal membrane, processus alveolaris'
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) The basic principles of the growth of bony organs (relocation, remodelling, cortical drift)
10) The basic principles of the growth of bony organs (continues; relocation) and functional matrix theory
11) Prenatal development, formation of stomadeum, upper face formation, the branchial system, primary and secondary palate formation, the formation of mandible and tongue
12) Prenatal formation and postnatal growth and development of head face jaw skeleton, the effects of the development of this system on dentitions, occlusion and other systems
13) Prenatal and postnatal growth and development of the maxilla
14) Prenatal growth and development of the mandible
15) Postnatal growth and development of the mandible
