oral microbiology
The human oral cavity contains a number of different habitats, including the teeth, gingiva, tongue, hard and soft palates, which have different anatomical features. Oral microbiota consist of ; bacteria, fungus, viruses, archeas that are located in the habitats of the oral cavity. Each of these microorganisms play an important role alone, but there is a serious interaction between each other and the host. In this lesson, mention is made of oral microbiota elements are located in the oral cavity and the dynamic interaction of with the host during life, as well as the effects and changes of microbiota in the main diseases of oral cavity as tooth decay and periodontal diseases. The abundant structure of oral microbiota is not limited to the oral cavity and has significant effects on the etiologic and pathophysiological mechanisms of systemic and metabolic diseases affecting the vast majority of populations such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The knowledge on how colonization occurs, how oral microbiome coevolves with the host, and how oral microorganisms interact with each other may be a key factor to understand diseases etiology, progression and treatment.
