Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explain the definition and concepts of Endodontics.
2) Clarify the vital pulp indications, treatment methods, requirements for success and the materials used in vital pulp therapy.
3) Distinguish the structure and histology of dental pulp.
4) Remember the functions, zones, cells and metabolism of dental pulp.
5) Remember the physical properties and clinical usage of endodontic instruments.
6) Have a detailed knowledge of the characterictics and composition of intracanal medicaments, disinfectants and root canal filling materials.
7) Explain the elements of Rubber Dam and the methods of Rubber Dam placement and the advantages of its usage.
8) Express the importance of sterilization in Endodontics and to know the sterilization techniques.
9) Evaluate the root morphology, the root canal anatomy and the variations of root canals of teeht.
10) Exspress the principles of access cavity preparation
11) Explain the methods of working length determination.
12) Review the rationale and objectives of endodontic irrigation.
13) Appreciate the importance of the cleanliness within root canal systems.
14) Define the smear layer.
15) Describe objectives for shaping of the root canals.

Includes the introduction of endodontics, vital pulp therapies, histology of pulp, introduction of materials, devices, instruments used in endodontics, sterilization, isolation of tooth, and root canal anatomy. e Includes Access cavity principles in anterior, premolar, molar teeth, working length determination, root canal irrigation methods, definition of smear layer, root canal shaping and obturation methods, types and composition of root canal filling materials.
