Course Contents

Contents Definition and characteristics of language; the relationships between language and nation, thought and culture; the world languages; the place of Turkish Language among other languages; the historical development of Turkish language; Atatürk’s language revolution, his perception of language and his efforts; phonetic characteristics of Turkish Language; Turkish grammar; the structure of Turkish Syntax; writing rules and punctuation marks;

Weekly Schedule

1) Introducing the source books of Turkish Language course.
2) Definition and characteristics of language, relationship between language and culture, the feature of language as a conveyer of culture, spekaing and written language.
3) Languages on earth, language families and the place of Turkish among the languages and their features. The historical development of Turkish language until today and the alphabets used by Turks. Research topic of the term: Reading and investigating a work about Turkish language, Turkish literature and Turkish culture.
4) Ataturk's views about language. Sun-Language theory and Ataturk's views about Turkish Language.
5) Writing rules. Spelling of some suffix and prepositions. Writing of specific names, numbers and quotes. Using positions of uppercase and lowercase letters.
6) Spelling rules. Punctuation marks, importance of punctuation marks. Exercises of using such marks on sample sentences.
7) Words and meaning. Meaning features of words. Word semantic connections and semantic chamges. Concrete processing.
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Sentence meaning and interpretation. Tense clauses, interrogative sentences, exclamations.
10) Paragraph. Main idea in a paragraph, paragraph types, the contents of the paragraph, secondary ideas in a paragraph.
11) Official correspondences. Petition, minutes, reports, business letters, papers. Exercises about those correspondences.
12) Parts of sentence. Using correctly parts of sentence for setting true sentences.
13) Expression disorders. Word-level expression disorders. Practices on Sample texts.
14) Expression disorders at Sentence-level. Examples of expression disorders compiled from various press and media organs.
15) Expression disorders facing in daily life and exercises about correcting those disorders.
16) Final examination
