Course Contents

This course provides students with the knowledge of the Definition of Standard and Standardization, The History of Standardization, the Purpose and The Principles of Standardization, The Benefits of Standardization, TSE and Their Functions, The Processes of Acreditation and Certification in Turkey,The Importance of International Standardization, the Corporating of Standardization in Regional and International Area, The Metrology in National and International Area, The Working Areas of Calibration and Corporating About them, The History of Quality, Total Quality Management and its Principles, Some Quality Systems and Certifications which are accepted by International Area, The Importance and Benefits of Quality Assurance, The Definition of TS-EN-ISO 9000:2000; TS-EN-ISO 9001:2000; TS-EN-ISO 9004:2000. TS-EN-ISO 19011:2000 The Management System of Quality and Environment, The Documentation of Quality System.

Weekly Schedule

1) Course content and information about reference books. Define standards and standardization, standardization of the development process, issues, goals and principles
2) The benefits of standardization to the manufacturer and the consumer, standards and standardization activities in Turkey, kinds of standards, define the Turkish Standards Institute and its duties.
3) Certification and accreditation work in Turkey, the Turkish Accreditation Authority and its works, the importance of international standardization, regional and international standardization organizations, national and international metrology, calibration studies and related organizations
4) The history of quality, definition and basic concepts and the relations between these concepts
5) Quality approaches, the relationship between quality and productivity, quality, costs, poor quality risks
6) Information about scientists that paved the way for the concept of quality, their approaches
7) General information about Total Quality Management and its basics
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Information about the importance and benefits of quality assurance
10) Principles of quality management, quality management system standards of the history.
11) Introduction of the TS-EN-ISO 9000:2000, TS-EN-ISO 9001:2000, TS-EN-ISO 9004:2000 standards and the differences of them with 1994 revised form
12) TS-EN-ISO 19011:2000-2001-2008 Quality and Environmental Management Systems
13) Quality system documentation, implementation of ISO 9001 standards and certification procedures
14) Studies related to professional standards, general revision
15) Information about companies working on the review of the Quality Management System and documentation
16) Final examination
