1) Classify the organic compounds, define the sp, sp2 and sp3 hybridized orbitals and the bonding of carbon in organic compounds.
2) Define the nomenclature (IUPAC and common), structure, major reactions, chemical and physical properties of selected hydrocarbons.
3) Describe the kinds of isomerism and the conformations of the selected organic compounds
4) Define the rules of business and operational safety.

Course Contents

This course includes organic chemistry, classification of hydrocarbons, bonding of carbon in organic compounds, Drawing 's' and 'p' orbitals (sp, sp2,sp3 hybridization). Molecular and structural formulas (condensed and open line) for simple organic compounds. Isomerism and resonance forms of organic compounds. Saturated hydrocarbons ,alkanes, cycloalkanes. Common and IUPAC nomenclature. Conformations ,physical and chemical properties and chemical reactions. Unsaturated hydrocarbons, nomenclature, structure, properties and simple reactions of alkenes. Reaction mechanism (trans electrophilic addition) of alkenes. Nomenclature, structure, properties and simple reactions of alkynes. Aromatic hydrocarbons ,structure of benzene ring and stability due to resonance. Common and IUPAC nomenclature of aromatic hydrocarbons. Alkyl halides.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction to organic chemistry, classification of hydrocarbons
2) Analysing hybridization (sp, sp2, sp3 ) of carbon and drawing moleküler orbitals.
3) Covalent bonding for organic compounds,molecular and structural formulas (condensed and open line) for simple organic compounds.
4) Isomerism and resonance forms of organic compounds and general organic reaction mechanisms
5) Saturated hydrocarbons, alkanes, cycloalkanes. Common and IUPAC nomenclature.
6) Conformations, physical and chemical properties and chemical reactions of alkanes.
7) Reactions and obtaining reactions of alkanes. Combustion, cracking, reactions with nitric acid and halogen.

10) Structure of alkenes, physical and chemical properties and isomerizations (structural and geometric).
11) Reactions of alkenes (addition, substitution, oxidation). 'Markovnikov Rules'
12) Obtaining reactions of alkenes (dehydration of alcohols, dehydrohalogenation of halogenoalkanes, dehydration)
13) Structure of alkynes, physical and chemical properties, izomerization types.
14) Reactions of alkynes (catalytic hydrojenation, electrophilic addition, oxidation...)
15) Obtaining reactions of alkynes (dehydrohalogenation, dehalogenation, reactions of halogenoalkanes with metal acetyls...)
