Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explain the importance of MAPs for our country and defines "Medicinal plants" and “Aromatic plants" concepts.
2) Clarify the biodiversity of our country and its endemic plant species.
3) Compare ecological factors affecting crop production.
4) Explain some concepts such as tillage, sowing-planting growing media.
5) Define some concepts such as crop rotation, mix-growing of MAPs, drainage.

Course Contents

Herbal-geographical regions of our country; endemic species richness and endemism of our country; environmental factors affecting crop production; soil tillage and the concepts of sowing and planting and production environments; crop rotation; mixed cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants; drainage.

4) The richness of plant species in Turkey
5) Gene centre, endemic plants and status of our country
6) Environmental factors effecting the MAPs cultivation
7) The effects of climatic and topographic factors
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Crop production techniques and tillage
10) Some concept such as sapling-seedling, sowing-planting, moving the plants to field (transporting)
11) Seedling production media and its properties
12) Practical activities
13) Soil disinfection and its importance for plant growing
14) Crop rotation and mix production of MAPs
15) Definition of drainage and its importance for agriculture
16) Final examination
