Course Contents

This course includes topics about reproductive organs of mare and stallion, signs of oestrous, mating, selection of breeding stallion and mare, artificial insemination, methods for sperma collecting, inspection of sperma.

Weekly Schedule

1) The importance of horse breeding. Horse breeding current executive/legal process.
2) Reproductive anatomy of mares
3) Reproductive physiology of mares
4) The estrous cycle and its stages
5) Horse breeding and pregnancy
6) Signs of approaching labor, normal foaling and dystocia
7) Reproductive anatomy of stallions and breeding soundness examination and reproductive period of the stallion
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) Semen collection and semen analyze
10) Semen handling and frozen semen
11) Preparing for breeding; Pasture breeding , hand breeding and artificial insemination
12) Preparing for breeding; Pasture breeding, hand breeding and artificial insemination
13) Managing the stallion for maximum reproductive efficiency
14) Care of the stallions and mares ; feeding and nutrition in breeding season.
15) The effects of reproductive medications and androgenic hormones used for stallions.
16) Final examination
