Course Contents

Definition of technology, definition of ceramic and tile, classification of ceramic products, classification of tile products, uses of ceramic and tile, ceramic and tile raw materials and their properties, preperation of raw material, preperation of ceramic and tile slurries, steps of slurry preperation, shaping methods of ceramic and tile, existing test methods of ceramic and tile bodies, process additives and their effects.

Weekly Schedule

1) Description of ceramics and tile, differences between ceramic and tile, historical developments of ceramic and tile, classification of ceramic and tile materials, uses fields of them.
2) Introduction to ceramic and tile raw materials, clay and kaolen groups raw materials, differences between clays and kaolens, properties of clays, heating behaviours of clays and kaolens, physical properties of clays.
3) Quartz groups of raw materials and their properties, feldspar groups of raw materials and their properties.
4) Physical properties of ceramic and tile raw materials and tests enforced to the raw materials, introduction to shaping methods of ceramics and tiles.
5) Ceramic shaping methods, slurry preperation methods, to calculate percentage rational analysis from chemical analysis.
6) To calculate slurry recipe known mineralogical composition.
7) To prepare Ceramic and tile recipes
8) Midterm examination/Assessment
9) To prepare ceramic and tile recipes by laboratory groups at the laboratory and sintering them.
10) To teach drying shrinkage, sintering shrinkage, total shrinkage and water absorption experiments as a theoretical and practical.
11) To teach water absorption experiment as a theoretical and practical.
12) Potter, white tile, compact tile, porcelain and casting slurry recipes and preperation of them.
13) Preperation of slurry recipes by laboratory groups, to make necessary test after sintering.
14) Preperation of slurry recipes by laboratory groups, to make necessary test after sintering.
