1) Knows and applies basic occupational health and safety rules.
2) Knows basic electrical knowledge and recognizes welding machines.
3) Knows the types of electrical welding, knows whre and how to do which welding.
4) Knows the basic information about electric arc welding, knows its machines and knows how to do and apply electric arc welding.
5) Knows the basic information about gas welding, knows the machines and knows how to do gas welding and applies it.
6) Knows the basic information about TIG welding, knows the machines and knows how to do TIG welding and applies it.
7) Knows the basic information about electrical resistance (spot) welding, knows its machines and knows how to do spot welding and applies it.
8) Knows the causes of errors in electrical welding processes and takes various precautions
9) Environmental safety and first aid in welding works

Basic Electric

Course Contents

Definition of the source, Types of sources and their historical development. Comprehending the advantages and disadvantages of welding techniques. Electric arc and gas arc welding machinery and equipment. Arc and flame formation. Arc welding machines and working principles. Gases used in gas arc welding and their properties. Electrode and additional metals used in arc welding applications. Understanding the main welding faults and their causes. Weld preparation, joint types and positions in welding applications. Comprehending the basics of advanced welding techniques. Knowing electrical resistance welding processes and equipment and making welding skills. To be conscious of occupational safety in all electrical welding applications.

Weekly Schedule

1) Occupational health and safety in welding, general electrical information
2) Basic Electrical Information, basic features of transformers, rectifiers and welding machines and the equipment used
3) Generators, inverter etc. Basic features of welding machines and equipment used
4) Types of electrodes and their characteristics
5) Things to consider when choosing covered electrodes; welding groove designs and V, X, K and J welding applications
6) Welding parameter settings, points to be considered in position welding, welding of alloy steels and points to be considered
7) MIG-MAG arc welding method, equipment and application areas.
8) Midterm
9) Protective gases used and their mixtures, functions of the protective gas. Things to consider when pulling welded seams: free wire length, nozzles and maintenance. Parameter settings, welding speed, penetration and torch movements.
10) Parameter settings, welding speed, penetration and torch movements. Wire electrodes used and advantages and disadvantages of the method. Position sources, importance, areas of use.
11) Basic principle of Tig welding method, TIG arc welding machines, points to be taken into consideration when drawing Tig welding seams, torch system and maintenance.
12) TIG welding method, welding of aluminum and stainless steels, consumables and gases used in tig welding
13) Basic principle of electric resistance welding method, electric resistance welding methods, importance of the method, advantages and disadvantages
14) Basic principle of resistance spot welding, parameter settings, points to be considered in resistance spot welding, welding errors in resistance spot welding
15) Quality control techniques in electric arc and electric resistance welding applications. Standards used in welding
16) Final Exam
