Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit
1) Explain refrigeration and air conditioning.
2) Analyse vapour-compression refrigeration cycle and explain refrigerants.
3) Use physcrometric chart and analyse various air conditioning processes.
4) Explain systems used for automotive air conditioning, analyse thermostatic expansion valve and orifice tube systems.
5) Explain electric circuit components of vehicle air conditioning systems.
6) Determine the performance of vehicle air conditioning systems.
7) Explain bus, train and plane air conditioning systems.
8) Use service manifold, vacuum pump and service station in service procedures.

Course Contents
Introduction to air conditioning and refrigeration, analysis of vapour compression refrigeration cycle, refrigerants, psychrometric chart, analyzing various air conditioning processes, thermal comfort, introduction to vehicle air conditioning systems, systems with orifice tube and thermostatic expansion valve, mechanical and electrical components of automotive air conditioning systems, evaluating experimental performance of an automobile air conditioning system, bus air conditioning systems, using service manifold and vacuum pump, service procedures applied to vehicle air conditioning systems, use of service station, calculating heating and cooling loads for vehicles.
