Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Have and use theoretical knowledge of welding processes used in automotive industries
2) Be acquainted with new developments in the high energy and hybrid welding processes
3) Be acquainted with new developments in the solid state welding processes; resistance and friction based welding processes, MIAB, diffusion welding and ultrasonic welding process
4) Have knowledge of other welding processes; adhesive joints and combined joints welding and robotic welding applications

Course Contents

Principles and applications of gas metal arc welding processes. Principles and applications of electron beam welding. Principles and applications of laser beam welding, Principles and applications of hybrid welding processes, Principles and applications of resistance welding; spot welding, projection welding and seam welding, flash butt welding. Friction welding and industrial applications. Friction stir welding- principles and industrial applications. Magnetically impelled arc butt welding (MIAB)- principles and industrial applications, Diffusion welding, ultrasonic welding and industrial applications. Adhasive joints and combined joints in the auto bodies, Welding robots and their auto body applications.
