Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Students will be able to analyze and design reinforced concrete beams and column sections by considering reliable material models that reflect the behavior of confined concrete and strain hardening of steel
2) Students will be able to analyze reinforced concrete beams and column sections in yield and ultimate limits.
3) Students will be able to determine their plastic hinge rotation capacity.
4) Students will learn concepts such as punching failure and yield line theory in flat-plates

Course Contents

Definition of material and load, concrete models and the effect of confinement, effect of axial load on column behavior, effect of concrete strength on member behavior, moment-curvature relationship in reinforced concrete elements, inelastic load-displacement relationship in reinforced concrete elements, punching in slabs, yield lines, and the use of strip method, element and system behavior under reversible-repeated loads
