Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Explain importance of insitu investigation and geotechnical evaluation on application projects
2) Categorize probable problems about earth sciences at civil engineering projects
3) Name risk category of his/her project
4) Sketch the research program according to project features and soil conditions
5) Realize a boring and in-situ testing program for reliable data
6) Demonstrate correlations from in-situ cone penetration and boring logs
7) Recognize technics of taking disturbed and undisturbed samples for laboratory tests.
8) Relate physical and mechanical properties of environment from in-situ tests
9) Calculate the soil liquefaction potential from in-situ tests at projects practised on earthquake risky areas
10) Realize a geotechnical report

In-situ observation and importance of geotechnical evaluation -Planning of in-situ observation-Soil classification-Rock classification-Office and observational studies-Instruments for in-situ observations-Borings for subsurface observation-Obtaininig disturbed and/or undisturbed samples-Obtaining technics of undisturbed samples-In-situ and laboratuary studies-Standards-Data and their geotechnical evaluations-Preparing geotechnical reports-Evaluation of printed geotechnical reports
