Course Contents

The aim of this course is to introduce key debates and themes for comprehending the politics of Turkey and special attention will be given to the examination of cultural context, institutional structure, socio-political processes, as well as movements and developments that affect the shaping of the political system of the country. Since this course is being taught in Turkey, the students need to employ the surrounding social environment to enhance available conventional pedagogical tools. Therefore, in addition to classroom lectures based upon the scheduled readings, the students will be encouraged to share their appropriate personal/local experiences for the group discussions. The weekly course content is organized thematically as well as chronologically, which seeks to maximize student participation, in addition to remaining faithful to comparative methodology.
