Course Contents

This course equips candidates with in-depth knowledge on historical background of the relations between Europa and Turkey, Ankara agreement, additional protocol, full membership application, customs union, candidate and accession process, full membership negotiations and problems.

Weekly Schedule

1) European Integration Process I: A Historical Overview
2) European Integration Process II: The History of the EU, Instituions, Summits and Enlargement
3) The History of the Turkey and EU Relations: The Association Agreement, the Additional Protocol, the periods of the Associationship, the Application for the Full Membership, the Customs Union and the Institutions
4) Turkey in the Process of Memberhip: the Copenhagen criteria, the Luxembourg and Helsinki Summits, the Assessments of the Progress Reports, the Accession Partnerhip and the Reports presented by the European Parliament
5) The Main Issues Related to the Full Membership in the Turkey-EU Relations: the Customs Union; Main targets on the road to the full membership; Turkey in the EU Decision-making mechanisms; EU Bıdget and Turkey; the Accession Negotiations and the Acquis
6) Turkey's Membership Process I: the Cyprus Issue
7) Turkey's Membership Process II: Democratization, Human Rights, Minority Rights and Civil Society
