The course focuses on theoretical approaches to the understanding of social problems and the analysis of issues commonly defined as problems within contemporary societies such as poverty, migration, ethnicity and environmental (in)justice. It is designed to provide an understanding of how major systems of power such as racism, sexism, classism, and heterosexism, among others, are interrelated, and result in numerous social problems.
