Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Students, who successfully complete this lecture, gains below mentioned knowledge and skills about sociology of contemporary politics of Turkey: 1. Ability to understand and analyze the fundamentals of politics in Turkey from a sociologic perspective. 2. Ability to analyze the relations of contemporary politics sociology in Turkey. 3. Ability to compare and contrast the politic and social relations and to write about them through literature review, data analysis, seminar reports, exams and articles. 4. Ability to understand the basic factors that lay behind the problems and arguments of politics sociology, gaining presentation skills through seminar presentations of postgraduate education, ability to take part in academic and intellectual discussions. 5. Ability to study and research on different areas in different international organizations, universities, research institutes, media establishments, political corporations and other private and public institutions. Ability to apply sociology of contemporary politics on specific subjects and ability to evaluate political events in a systematic and consistent way.

Course Contents

Many theoretical, basic subjects and applications in political sociology field are going to be examined in scope of the course. Actual and strategic matters, problems and needs are going to be discussed based on basic theoretical sources, postgraduate examinations and reports of think tanks in addition to the data of research establishments from an interdisciplinary perspective. Course focuses on today's Turkey. Students will be provided with the chance to obtain interdisciplinary and comprehensive information, competence and confidence to perfectly carry out studies regarding actual political sociology on Turkey in any way, to interpret their findings and to evaluate them. Works are going to be carried out to implement and improve the theoretical information based on good foundations regarding the studies on actual subjects which range from social and political dynamics, processes, sources and conditions to the basic concepts that are selected flexibly.
