Course Contents

The primary scope of the course, the social change that took place in Turkey from 1950's to the present day will be discussed culturally, sociologically, politically and economically. Secondly, how this change shaped, effected Turkish cinema over decades and its projections on it will be analyzed through popular films.

Weekly Schedule

1) Introduction to the course and the basic concepts of the course.
2) The concept of social change.
3) Turkish Cinema: the period from 1950 to 1980.
4) Turkish Cinema: the period from 1980 to 2000.
5) Turkish cinema in the context of social change: the period from 1950 to 1980.
6) Turkish cinema in the context of social change: the period from 1980 to 1990.
7) Turkish cinema in the context of social change: the period from 1990 to 2015.
8) Mid-term/Evaluation
9) Economic change in Turkey, consumption culture and its effects on Turkish cinema.
10) Cultural change in Turkey, popular culture and its effects on Turkish cinema.
11) Sociological change in Turkey, migration and their effects on Turkish cinema.
12) Political change in Turkey, censorship and their effects on Turkish cinema.
13) Perspective on happiness and change in dreams in Turkish cinema.
14) Changes in the concept of malignancy and its process in Turkish cinema.
