1) Identifies the development and emerging trends of the contemporary Turkish cinema, from Yeşilçam to the present.
2) Knows the key directors of the contemporary Turkish cinema.
3) Critically evaluates and discusses the selected films of key directors of the contemporary Turkish cinema.
4) Demonstrates specialised knowledge of the cinematographic, narrative and stylistic aspects of contemporary Turkish cinema.
5) Learns the industrial context (including modes of production, distribution and exhibition) in which contemporary Turkish films are made.

Course Contents

This course explores the cinematographic, narrative and stylistic aspects of contemporary Turkish cinema, from mid-1990s to the present. These features are presented by identifying the recurring motifs and narratives with an analysis of the films of prominent /auteur directors.

4) The effect of Yeşilçam in the emergence of the contemporary Turkish cinema.
5) The dynamics of the emergence of the contemporary Turkish cinema.
6) Cinematographic language of the contemporary Turkish cinema.
7) Narrative features of the contemporary Turkish cinema.
8) Mid Term Exam
9) Films of Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
10) Films of Zeki Demirkubuz.
11) Films of Reha Erdem.
12) Films of Tolga Karaçelik

14) Internationally award-winning director of the year and the analysis of this film.
