Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1) Analyzes cultural practices, representations, identities and power, gains interest and knowledge on these issues, and can look critically.
2) Knows how cultural practices and meanings are produced, disseminated and changed..
3) Read the visual media.
4) Gains knowledge about communication and cultural theories, mass culture, popular culture, globalization, gender, representation of various identities in the media, media - economy - power relations, new communication technologies.
5) Study theories between media and culture.

Visual Reading Methods

Course Contents

After giving a brief history of visual media and cultural studies, semiotics, ethnography, cultural history, critical theory and the basic theories and methods of psychoanalysis are shown. Assessing the impacts of the visual culture of the media.
