Course Contents

Information will be given about the founders, sufism, works and followers of the Sufi organizations that started to be formed from the 12th century on; in addition, the contribution of orders to the spread of Islam and the formation of Islamic civilization in various geographies will be examined.

2) The concept of order/tariqa in theory and the term of sayr al-suluk
3) The concept of order/tariqa in the institutional sense; the terms of bey’at, murid, şayh and pir.
4) The İslamic orders before the XII century.
5) Irak bölgesinde: Kadiriyye, Rifaiyye, Sühreverdiyye Islamic orders after XII century. In Iraq: Kadiriyya, Rifaiyya, Suhverdiyya
6) Religious life and Islamic orders in Egypt: Bedeviyye, Desûkiyye
7) Islamic orders in North Africa: Medyeniyye and Şazeliyye.
8) Islamic orders in Central Asia: Yeseviyye, Kubreviyye, Naqshbandiyya
9) The orders that were influential in Anatolia: Bayramilik and Mevlevilik
10) Zayniyya, Bektaşiyya and Halwatiyya
11) Order’s rituals and practices: Sema, Devran
12) Tekke’s music and architecture
13) Tekke’s music and architecture
14) İn the Ottoman Empire, the relationship of sufis with managers, members of the madrasah and the public
